Who is behind the brand?

Hi, my name is Anouk (ah-nook) and I’m the founder and artist behind Poppin’ Patterns. This jewelry brand was born in 2021 and is based in the Netherlands. I’m also a professional visual artist, working in the field of fine art.

When I was old enough to choose my own outfits, I would always adorn myself with jewelry. The outfit wouldn’t be complete without it. It began with borrowing my mom’s jewelry, then hoarding jewelry that had my favorite pop-artist on it and later wearing black chokers to show I’m not like the others. Jewelry has always been my way of communicating how I feel or who I am. As I changed through the years, so did my jewelry.

My mission

A fusion of style and soul: that’s Poppin’ Patterns. It’s not just about jewelry; it’s about embodying the courage to embrace change when change is needed, and discover beauty within every pattern, whether in fashion or in life’s adventures.

I believe jewelry has the power to inspire and empower. So while I create meaningful jewelry to express myself, I also create them to help you communicate parts of yourself that you want to highlight.

Inspiration

My Surinamese and Javanese roots has been a source of inspiration for almost a decade. In 2023 I graduated my bachelor of Fine Art with a short film about my cultural identity, which got awarded the Carat Lucas Gassel-price that year. Seeing the amazing response from people inspired me to combine stories connected to my roots with jewelry - and yet again, sharing who I am through jewelry. That’s how the Stitch & Tell collection was born.

At the heart of Stitch & Tell lies a deep appreciation for Surinamese Javanese and Afro-Surinamese heritage. Drawing inspiration from history, family stories and art from the community, these jewelry pieces introduce the versatility of culture within Suriname. Read more about Stitch & Tell here.

Only recently have I introduced this inspiration in my brand, even though it has kept me busy in other aspects all these years. Breaking, or at least challenging my own patterns has resulted in works that I'm most proud of. So Poppin' Patterns I shall!

Thank you for sticking around and I hope to see you here more often <3

Much love, Anouk
