Types of earrings: a guide for choosing your type!

There are a lot of different earrings out there. When shopping, you're looking at the designs, if it's heavy or not. But choosing earrings that suit you not only depends on the colors and shapes, it also depends on the type of earring. Which types are there and should you have a preference?

Hooks

These are well known and have been around forever! These earrings allow free movement. There are hooks that are open and hooks that close with a leverback. Leverback hooks make sure the earrings don't fall out of your ears and they don't poke your neck.

Studs

These earrings usually have a singular point, like a stone, attached to a post that goes through the earlobe to a backing. Such earrings are perfect for everyday wear, as they sit on top of your earlobe. Though they can be used for dangly earrings!

Huggies and hoops

These round shaped earrings have existed in various cultures for many centuries. They come in many shapes and sizes. Their differences are in the type of closure. There are hoops with a leverback. Huggies are basically the same as such hoops, but they're smaller and appear to be hugging your earlobes. Huggies often have a "clicking" closure. There are also hoops with a "pin-loop" closure: one that takes some getting used to, but ones it's secure your earrings will stay put!

So which one should you choose when shopping for earrings? An important factor, besides pretty looks, is comfort. Normal earring hooks are easy to use and can be worn with an earring backing for extra security, but the hook can poke in your neck. So an alternative would be a leverback hook or huggies.

If you're looking for earrings that stay secure, "pin-loop" hoops and leverback hooks are your best options. If you're looking for versatility, huggies are ideal, because you can invest in one pair and add earring charms to them!

There are many more earrings out there, but in this blog I selected the ones I use for the jewelry in my shopOn that note: if you see earrings you like, but you prefer a different type of earring, don't hesitate to ask me to replace it! I'd be happy to change it for you. Much love and good luck with finding your perfect pair!
